Supporting Transition from Primary School

We recognise that the move from primary to secondary school can be a challenging time for some pupils, especially those with Additional Learning Needs or who are neurodivergent.

To make this transition as smooth as possible, we offer a structured programme of support, including:

  • Enhanced Transition Visits: Pupils are invited to additional visits to familiarise themselves with the school environment, meet key staff, and experience some taster lessons.

  • Key Worker Introductions: Learners with an IDP or who may benefit from additional support are introduced to the school’s ALNCo and support team early in the process.

  • Primary Liaison Meetings: Our ALNCo works closely with primary schools to share information about each pupil’s needs and effective strategies for support.

  • Parent Information: We welcome visits to the school by prospective pupils and their families from Year 5. We are always happy to offer private and confidential meetings to support parents/carers in making informed choices about secondary school applications.

Our transition support aims to build confidence and ensure that every pupil starts their secondary education feeling prepared and supported.
