Year 7 iCommunicate Term 1
What is on the curriculum? |
Good to know |
|
In iCommunicate English, we start with a study of the origins of literature, looking at where stories come from. As part of this topic, pupils study specific examples of stories from Welsh and Greek mythology, considering the key messages we can all learn from literature. |
The main skills required in the study of a language - reading, writing, speaking and listening - are studied across all three subject areas, allowing pupils to make connections between the languages and to consolidate these skills. |
|
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils begin with the topic of identity, learning how to describe themselves in Welsh. They move on to study the topic of leisure time, expanding their Welsh vocabulary and sentence structures. In the course of this term, connections are made between our Welsh cultural identity and other cultures, many of which are represented in our community. |
Cynefin - the idea of where we are and where we belong - is introduced this term and is a thread that runs through our curriculum in Languages throughout the year, and beyond. |
|
In iCommunicate Spanish, the first topic is also identity and culture, allowing pupils to make connections to their own experiences as well as to other languages. There is a particular focus on speaking so that pupils have plenty of opportunities to practise Spanish sounds and pronunciations early on in their introduction to the language. |
At this stage in their development of newer languages, a lot of time is spent 'modelling' the language patterns by sentence building with a particular focus on pronunciation and intonation. |
