Year 7 iCommunicate Term 3

What is on the curriculum?
Good to know

In iCommunicate English, we introduce pupils to a range of voices and views from different cultures and backgrounds through the study of poetry. We also consider how poetry differs from other forms of writing, like novels and short stories, giving pupils a chance to expand their creative writing skills. Later in the term, pupils extend their understanding of other cultures through the study of various festivals from around the world as well as those from Wales.

An important focus this term is building pupils' confidence in speaking activities, including speaking in front of an audience. This means there will be speaking assessments in all three subjects at different points in the term. We believe it is crucial to practise such activities as confidence when communicating verbally is a key skill for later in school and wider life, and pupils need to start building their resilience here.
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils build on their learning of Welsh vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures through the study of the topic of school, something they often have plenty of opinions about! We also look at comparing the education in Wales and in Patagonia to consider the links in the learning of Cymraeg. In the summer term, we offer an optional Hay Festival trip to a range of year groups to help promote the love of reading and of creative writing.

In iCommunicate Spanish, pupils complete their work on the theme of identity by learning to talk and write about pets as well as their personal preferences. In this term, pupils will produce a Voki to showcase their speaking skills.

Cynefin is an important aspect of our summer Eisteddfod, when year 7 pupils are given the opportunity to celebrate the Welsh language and identity in an inclusive and engaging way.
