Year 8 iCommunicate Term 1

What is on the curriculum?
Good to know
In iCommunicate English, we begin year 8 with a focus on drama, learning about Elizabethan theatre before studying 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by Wiliam Shakespeare. Through studying the play, pupils learn about the values of society at the time and are introduced to Shakespeare's language and style of writing.

The main skills required in the study of a language — reading, writing, speaking and listening — are studied across all three subject areas, allowing pupils to make connections between the languages and to consolidate these skills.
Most pupils will study a Shakespeare play at GCSE level,so this is an important introduction to the historical context of the time, as well as a different kind of English.

In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils build on their knowledge of the Welsh language through the theme of holidays. As part of this topic, they further their understanding of the South American region of Patagonia, comparing it to Wales. In the first term of year 8, we offer an optional weekend trip to Llangrannog, where pupils can engage with the Welsh language in an active and fun way.

In iCommunicate Spanish, pupils build on their prior knowledge of the language, focusing on extending their vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures through the topic of animals and pets. Pupils learn to communicate points of comparison and contrast.
