Year 8 iCommunicate Term 2

What is on the curriculum?
Good to know

In iCommunicate English, at the start of this term, we introduce pupils to the subject of Media Studies. They learn about how media relates to their lives and analyse different texts, such as posters and film trailers, before creating their own media text. Our second theme of the term is the natural world. Pupils study how the natural world is written about in both fiction and non-fiction texts, which aids them in crafting both imaginative and informative responses.

Introducing pupils to the subject of Media Studies at this point will help them make informed choices for iExplore later in the year as well as for GCSE options (choices made in year 9).
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils also study media texts, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of Welsh language and culture. They learn about songs by various Welsh language artists and about television programmes on S4C, the Welsh language channel. Dydd Miwsig Cymru (Welsh Music Day) is celebrated nationally every February. Listening to songs in Welsh or watching Welsh television programmes can be an engaging way for pupils to improve their Welsh language skills at home.
In iCommunicate Spanish, pupils study the topics of food and leisure, extending their vocabulary as well as their ability to express their opinions. At the end of this term's unit in Spanish, pupils will have assessments in reading, listening and writing.
