Year 8 iCommunicate Term 3

What is on the curriculum?
Good to know

In iCommunicate English, we start the term with the theme of technology, studying a range of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as various issues that affect us, such as the use of artificial intelligence. As part of this unit, we look at the genre of science fiction, guiding pupils to write more creatively. We then move on to study a complete novel: 'Trash' by Andy Mulligan, a story based in a city in Latin America that gives pupils an insight into the challenges faced by young people elsewhere in the world.

Literature and reading widely can help us develop an informed, ethical understanding of the world, as well as sparking creativity and enhancing key language skills. In the summer term, we offer an optional Hay Festival trip to a range of year groups to help promote the love of reading and of creative writing.
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils also study the theme of technology, expanding their knowledge of and aptitude in the Welsh language. They consider the impact of technology on our lives and on the Welsh language with the use of real-life issues and contexts aiding their learning.

In iCommunicate Spanish, pupils build on their previous skils and knowledge of the language through the study of holidays. A focus on speaking helps build their confidence as they extend their vocabulary as well as their use of different tenses and sentence structures.

During this term's unit in Spanish, pupils will have a speaking assessment.
