Year 9 iCommunicate Term 2
What is on the curriculum? |
Good to know |
|
In iCommunicate English, we begin the second term with a short unit on Gothic fiction, studying the conventions of this type of writing before challenging pupils to create their own Gothic description. Pupils then study a complete short novel: 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell. They learn about its historical context as well as developing an understanding of how different texts influence our thoughts and feelings. |
Being able to produce an engaging, accurate piece of extended writing is a key element of GCSE English.
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils develop their Welsh language skills through a unit on their area and surroundings, comparing Swansea to other places across the country. They are introduced to GCSE-style writing questions in this unit. Pupils then move on to study Welsh celebrities, developing their writing skills further. | Cynefin — the idea of where we are and where we belong — is a thread that runs through our curriculum in Languages and is often, as in this unit, directly addressed so that pupils can consider their place in the world.
In iCommunicate Spanish, a unit based on technology enables pupils to build on their previous knowledge of key elements of grammar while considering the advantages and disadvantages of various types of technology as well as the significance of social media in our lives. |
