Year 9 iCommunicate Year 3

What is on the curriculum?
Good to know

In iCommunicate English, pupils extend their study of literature through a unit on poetry from other cultures. Not only does this advance pupils' reading skills but it also helps them develop as empathetic, ethical learners. We then move on to study speeches and the art of crafting an effective speech, before challenging pupils to write their own.

Studying literature, including poetry, is another important element of GCSE English. In the summer term, we offer an optional Hay Festival trip to a range of year groups to help promote the love of reading and of creative writing.
In iCommunicate Cymraeg, pupils begin term 3 by reflecting on bilingualism. They consider the advantages and disadvantages of being able to communicate in two languages, comparing the use of language in Wales and in the South American region of Patagonia. They move on to an oracy task in the style of the assessments they will undertake at GCSE. Pupils will complete an oracy assessment in small groups in class, in the style of a GCSE task, to help build confidence and resilience.

In iCommunicate Spanish, pupils continue their study of the topic of technology, considering its future potential, which helps consolidate their knowledge of grammar and different tenses. As part of this unit, they undertake an informal individual speaking task that helps build their confidence in verbal communication in another language.

During this term in Spanish, pupils will have a reading and translation assessment.
